COURTESY OF FLIXBUSGerman transportation giant FlixBus is expanding its long-distance bus services to Houston, San Antonio and other major markets across the Gulf Coast region.
FlixBus is adding Houston, San Antonio, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Biloxi, Mississippi to its U.S. network. The company already has a major presence throughout California, Arizona and Nevada. FlixBus stops will be located near Rice University, Louisiana State University and the University of Texas at San Antonio's downtown campus, according to a March 6 press release from the company. The company's first bus stop in Houston will be a parking lot at Gray and Smith, according to reporting from the Houston Chronicle.
FlixBus will handle the technology development, network planning, yield management, operations control and marketing sides of the business operations. FlixBus is partnering with charter companies Dallas-based AJL International; Marrero, Louisiana-based Louisiana Motor Coach; San Antonio-based Star Shuttle Inc.; and Irving, Texas-based Wynne Transportation LLC to handle the daily operations of the busses for the company's southern routes, according to the press release. Globally, FlixBus has created over 7,000 jobs for local bus drivers, per the release.
Like other similar long-distance bus options in the area, FlixBus tickets are cheap — rates for a trip from Houston to San Antonio start as low as 99 cents. The company offers morning, daytime and late night bus trips, with a nearly daily bus trip from Houston to San Antonio starting at 5:30 a.m., according to the FlixBus website. Tickets go on sale March 6, with FlixBus' big green busses hitting the region's roads on March 14, according to the press release.
