Enrique Martinez Nice to see you DO NOT support the Fire dept. Mr Gallegos, I live in your district along with several other firefighters, we were threatened with layoffs last time if we took the raise, you should post accurate information and stop lying to the public …See More
Robert Gallegos Thanks for the message and for your service to 26’s. My post did not contain any inaccurate information, as you claim. I only noted that the mayor will be hosting townhall meetings across the city… but since you accused me of “lying” and raised other points, I find it important to respond. The reality is that if “pay parity” passes, it WILL impact the City’s budget and affect taxpayers of this city. Pay raises, in this case to the tune of at least $98 million PER YEAR, will have to come from somewhere. The City will be put in a bad financial position and we will have to cut or severely limit other services in order to pay for the pay raises. Unfortunately, your Union refused to accept pay raises offered by the previous mayor and the current mayor. Your Union passed on a 4% raise in 2014, and 9.5% raise over the next 3 years. The more your Union continues to pass up reasonable pay raises the more and more you and all firefighters will fall behind. Please urge your Union to return to the negotiating table or to re-consider the 9.5% raise they are being offered. That offer is still on the table. As the elected councilmember for District I, it’s my responsibility to remind residents about the importance of being informed on all issues and most importantly those that can drastically impact city services. Thank you.
Enrique Martinez Don’t forget about the debit day! Which means 3 24hr shifts during that week.
